Conference Championship Sunday

*Ravens/Kansas City — It should have been an amazing game for the Ravens, that they would head to the Super Bowl. Instead, it would be a self-destruct by the Ravens. It was a low-scoring game but with both teams being shut out in two quarters every score was precious. Any time the Ravens seemed like they were getting something going a simple mistake, the Chiefs would make sure the Ravens got shut down. Lamar Jackson threw 20 for 37 for 272 yards with 1 touchdown but 1 interception. Patrick Mahomes threw 30 for 39 for 241 yards with 1 touchdown. **Final Score — Ravaens – 10 and Kansas City – 17

Kansas City waiting on the winner of the Lions/49érs match meeting in Las Vegas on February 12

*Lions/49érs — I was secretly hoping for the Lions to pull this off. By halftime, it was looking like the Lions had this in the bag. Each team was shut out for a quarter which could have made a difference in the outcome of the game. Brock Purdy threw 20 for 31 for 267 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Jared Goff threw 25 for 41 for 273 yards and 1 touchdown. (don’t count the Lions out next year) *Final Score — Lions – 31 and 49érs – 34

See you Las Vegas as the Kansa City Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers.

Divisional Round Weekend

Ravens/Houston — The Ravens had a week off to rest up, and along with playing at home, I had to go for the Ravens. C.J. Stroud would have a lot of pressure on him but how would he handle the defence of the Ravens would tell a lot. C.J. threw 19 for 33 for 175 yards. Lamar Jackson threw 16 for 22 for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. *Final Score — Ravens – 34 and Houston – 10. **Ravens move on to play Kansas City at home in Baltimore for the right to head to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. (This is the early game on Sunday)

49érs/Packers — With San Francisco at home at first I expected this to be a blowout. The Packers gave the Niners some real issues at times. Each team had a shutout quarter which could have made a difference in the score. Jordan Love threw 21 for 34 for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns but 2 interceptions. Brock Purdy threw 23 for 39 for 252 yards and 1 touchdown. *Final Score — 49’ers – 24 and Packers – 21. The 49ers will host the Lions for the right to go to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. (This is the late game on Sunday)

Lions/Buccaneers — This game was in Tampa, but I had to secretly cheer for the Lions. It’s been so long between trips for them. This game would be in the hands of the Lions who are having their best year yet. Jared Goff threw 30 for 43 for 287 yards and 2 touchdowns. Baker Mayfield threw 26 for 41 for 349 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. *Final Score — Lions – 31 and Tampa Bay – 23. **The Lions are heading to San Francisco.

Kansas City/Bills — This would be the battle of the quarterbacks in this game. The Kansas City defence would make the difference in the 4th quarter. Josh Allen threw 26 for 39 for 186 yards and 1 touchdown. Patrick Mahomes threw 17 for 23 for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. *Final Score — Kansas City — 27 and Bills — 24. **Kansas City heads to Baltimore.

NFL Notes, Week 16

Things are taking shape heading to the playoffs. Things always start to get more interesting as it nears the end of the regular season.

*Rams/Saints — This was an interesting matchup. I was not sure how things would go. The Ram’s defence shut out the Saints for 2 quarters or this game could have been closer. Matthew Stafford threw 24 for 34 for 328 yards with 2 touchdowns. Derek Carr had a good day throwing 27 for 40 for 319 yards with 3 touchdowns but 1 interception. Kyren Williams ran for 104 yards in 22 carries with 1 touchdown. *Final Score — Rams – 30 and Saints – 22

*Steelers/Bengals — 3 quarters of scoreless football along with 3 interceptions thrown made for a long day for the Bengals. Mason Rudolph threw 17 for 27 for 290 yards and 2 touchdowns, on the flip side Jake Browning threw 28 for 42 for 355 yards with 1 touchdown but 3 interceptions. *Final Score — Steelers – 34 and Bengals – 11

*Chargers/Bills — I watched the end of this game and it was interesting. The Chargers shut out the Bills in the first quarter, normally you would think that the Chargers would hold but the Bills were not going to be denied. Easton Stick threw 23 for 33 for 215 yards. Josh Allen threw 15 for 21 for 237 yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The Bills field goal with 8 seconds left would be the difference. *Final score — Chargers – 22 and Bills – 24

*Vikings/Lions — The Lions sitting on top of the NFC North at 11 and 4 with a 2-game winning streak. This game could have gone either way. but a 10-point second quarter by the Lions was the difference. Nick Mullins threw 22 for 36 for 411 yards with 2 touchdowns but 4 interceptions (you don’t win games throwing interceptions). Jared Goff threw 30 for 40 for 257 with 1 touchdown. *Final Score — Lions – 30 and Vikings – 24.

*Dallas/Miami — I am a big Dallas fan and just assumed that this game was in the bag but this year with Miami anything is possible. Miami is at 11 and 4 on top of the AFC East on a 2-game winning streak. Dallas sitting second behind the Eagles at 10 and 5 but on a 2-game losing streak. Tua Tagovailoa threw 24 for 37 for 293 yards with 1 touchdown. Dak Prescott threw 20 for 32 for 253 yards with 2 touchdowns. *Final Score — Dallas – 20 and Miami – 22

*Broncos/Patriots — This game is usually a good battle but both teams have struggled in the last few years. When I have watched this game in the past it is usually a very defensive game and in some ways, it was the same this year with Denver being held scoreless for 2 quarters. Russell Wilson threw 25 for 37 for 238 yards with 2 touchdowns. Bailey Zappe threw 25 for 33 for 256 yards with 2 touchdowns. Zeke Elliot (former Buckeye) had 12 carries for only 27 yards. (If you can hold Zeke to that many yards it’s a good day for your defence) *Final Score — Broncos – 23 and Ravens – 26

*Ravens/49ers — You would think that this game would be all San Francisco with how well they are playing this season. From the first series, you could see that the Ravens were there to make life difficult for the 49ers. Brock Purdy threw 18 for 32 for 255 yards but had 4 interceptions. (The last time Brock had 3 interceptions was in college). Lamar Jackson threw 23 for 35 for 252 yards, throwing 2 touchdowns. Lamar also had 7 carries for 45 yards. *Final Score — Ravens – 33 and 49ers – 19.

NFL Week 10

*Bears/Panthers — This game opened in week 10. I was not sure which way this would go. You never know with the Bears which team you are going to get. Each team was held to one-quarter scoreless. The field goal kickers got a real workout for both teams with a combined total of 5 field goals, and 2 Touchdowns (1 for each side). Neither quarterback was able to throw over 200 yards. *Final Score — Bears – 16 and Panthers – 13

*Patriots/Colts — It was an extremely quiet day, with NO score in the middle quarters. 16 points scored the entire game. Neither quarterback could get anything going. Both Quarterbacks threw under 200 yards and each had 1 interception. *Final Score — Patriots – 6 and Colts – 10

*Jaguars/49ers — This game was all the 49ers. The Niners’ defence held the Jags to just 3 points in the second quarter. Brock Purdy threw 19 for 26 for 296 yards with 3 Touchdowns. Trevor Lawrence could not break 200 yards throwing with 2 interceptions. *Final Score — San Francisco – 34 and Jaguars – 3

*Ravens/Browns — Both teams have had good battles in the past with each other and this game could be no exception. Lamar Jackson was everywhere throwing 13 for 23 for 233 yards, 1 touchdown but 2 interceptions. Lamar also had 8 carries for 41 yards. Deshaun Watson held his own throwing 20 for 34 for 213 with 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. With no time left on the clock, it was up to Browns field goal kicker, Dustin Hopkins to take care of a 40-yard field goal, to steal the win. *Final Score — Ravens – 31 and Browns – 33

*Cowboys/Giants — It was all Dallas this game, holding the Giants scoreless in the first half. Dak Prescott threw 26 for 35 for 404 yards, with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Tommy Devito threw 14 for 27 for just 86 yards 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. *Final Score — Cowboys – 49 and Giants – 17

*Raiders/Jets — It was another quiet game with the Raiders needing just 3 field goals and 1 touchdown to get the win. The Jets could only manage 4 field goals which would not be enough. Aidan O’Connell (who I don’t know much about) threw 16 for 27 for 153 yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Zach Wilson threw 23 for 39 for 263 and 1 interception. Zach also had 4 carries for 54 yards. *Final Score — Raiders – 16 and Jets – 12.

*Bills/Broncos — When these two teams play it’s always an interesting game. I never know what to expect. Denver had the lead going into halftime, the Bills tried to sneak in for the win but a 36-yard field goal with no time left gave the win to the Broncos. Josh Allen threw 15 for 26 for 177 yards with 1 touchdown along with 2 interceptions. Russell Wilson faired a little better throwing 24 for 29 for 193 yards with 2 touchdowns. *Final Score — Denver – 24 and Buffalo – 22

NFL Notes Week 8

*Bills – Buccaneers — It was an all-Bills offence, even with being shut out in the 4th quarter. Josh Allen had an almost near-perfect day throwing 31 for 40 for 324 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Josh scored the first touchdown on a 13-yard run. Baker Mayfield did OK throwing 25 for 42 for 237 yards with 2 touchdowns. *Final Score — Bills – 24 and Buccs – 18

*Cowboys-Rams — My boys in Dallas had a field day scoring everywhere. With the help of the Cowboy’s Defense, who had the game won at halftime. The Rams tried a 2-point conversion just before halftime but it failed. Dak threw 25 for 31 for 304 yards, 4 touchdowns with `1 interception. Matthew Stafford threw 13 for 22 for only 162 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. *Final Score Dallas 40 and Rams 20

*Steelers – Jaguars — I kind of expected the Steelers to pile on the points but 2 touchdowns, one for each team and a handful of field goals was enough for the Jags to take the win. Mitch Trubisky threw 15 for 27 for 138 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Trevor Lawrence had a quiet day also throwing 24 for 32 for 292 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. *Final Score – Jags 20 and Steelers 10

*49érs – Bengals — I thought this might be a bit of a dogfight but the Bengals showed who wanted it more. Each team’s defence held the other to a scoreless quarter. The Niners fell 14 points short sending the game to overtime. Brock Purdy threw 22 for 31 for 365 yards, with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Joe Burrow threw 28 for 32 for 283 yards with 3 touchdowns. *Final Score – 49ers 17 and Bengals 31

*Chargers – Bears — To be honest I was not surprised by this score. The Bears have been so all over the place. Just when you think they might string a couple of wins together, they fall apart again. It was all the Charger’s Defence holding the Bears to just 13 points. Justin Herbert threw 31 for 40 for 298 and 3 touchdowns. Tyson Bryant did his best throwing 25 for 37 for 232 yards but 2 interceptions. *Final Score – Chargers – 30 and Bears – 13

*Lions – Raiders — My best mate was an avid Raiders fan, and I still keep an eye on how they are doing. The Lions have been having some terrible years of late but they are starting to get more attention. Detroit had the lead at halftime but piled on the points in the second half. Jared Goff threw 26 for 37 for 272 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Jimmy Garopollo seemed like the Lion’s defence gave him a hard time, only throwing 10 for 21 for 126 yards, with 1 interception. The Lions 2 touchdown came thanks to a 3-yard run from Josh Jacobs and a pick 6 from Marcus Peters on a 75-yard run. *Final Score – Lions – 26 and Raiders – 14

NFL Week 7

*Saints/Jaguars – With Derek Carr now in New Orleans, I was not sure what to expect. Derek had a solid day but got picked off in the 4th quarter. 6:38 in the 4th was the only touchdown that Derek was able to throw. The 2-point conversion was good, which tied up the score. The Jags took the win, at the 3:08 mark in the 4th, Christian Cook with a 44-yard pass from Trevor Lawrence with the point after being good. Derek Carr threw 33 for 55 for 301 with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. *Final Score – Saints – 24 and Jaguars – 31

*Ravens/Lions – It was all the Ravens day as the Lions could only score a touchdown in the 4th quarter when Jahmyr Gibbs ran it in on a 21-yard run. The 2-point conversion failed. Lamar Jackson had a super day throwing 21 for 27 for 357 yards with 3 touchdowns. Jared Goff threw 33 for 55 for 284 yards with 1 interception. *Final Score – Ravens 38 and Lions 6

*Giants/Washington – It was a quiet day with all the scoring in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. The Giants put 2 touchdowns on the board in the 2nd when Darren Walker on a 15-yard pass and Saquon Barkley on a 32-yard pass. both passes were from Tyrod Taylor. Washington’s only touchdown came in the 3rd quarter when Brian Robinson ran it in on a 4-yard run. *Final Score – Giants – 14 and Washington – 7

*Cheifs/Chargers – It was the Chief’s day as they piled on the points. Patrick Mahomes threw 32 for 42 for 424 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Justin Herbert threw 17 for 30 for 259 yards, 1 touchdown but 2 interceptions. *Final Score – Kansas City – 31 and Chargers 17

*Eagles/Dolphins – The Eagles keep going from strength to strength. The Eagle’s defence held the Dolphin’s offence to 17 points. Jalen Hurts had a decent day throwing 23 for 31 for 279 with 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Tua Tagolvania threw 23 for 32 for 216 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. *Final Score – Eagles – 31 and Miami – 17

*Vikings/49érs – Knowing how well San Francisco has been playing, I was expecting that this would be no different. By halftime, it was beginning to look like Minnesota might just have this one. The Vikings had a score of 16 to 7 at halftime. It took 2 field goals to seal the game, Greg Joseph was the workhorse that quarter with 2 field goals, 20 yards and 54 yards, respectfully. Kirk Cousins had a fairly good day throwing, 35 for 45 for 378 yards, with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. *Final Score – Vikings – 22 and San Francisco – 17

NFL Week 6

**GAME 1 – Chiefs/Broncos – I was really surprised by this score. The Chief’s defence was touch shutting out the Bronco’s offence. Denver’s only score was a passing touchdown to Courtland Sutton 11 yards from Russell Wilson. Going for a 2-point conversion which was good. Russell threw 13 for 22 for only 95 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Mahomes threw 30 for 40 for 306 with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. *Final score — Chiefs 19 and Denver 8

**GAME 2 – Browns/49érs — San Francisco came into this game undefeated, but at some point, there is a loss coming. Brown’s defence held the Niners to only 7 points at the end of the 1st quarter. Browns’ only touchdown came in the second quarter with Kareem Hunton on a 16-yard run. Philip Walker threw 18 for 34 for 192 yards with 2 interceptions. On the other side of the ball, Brock Purdy threw 12 for 27 for 125 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. *Final Score – Browns — 19 and San Francisco — 17.

**GAME 3 – Dolphins/Panthers — Touchdowns were on the menu today by both teams. It was more of an offence day, the defence did their job but the scoreboard was busy. Tua Tagovilia was busy throwing 21 for 31 for 236 yards with 3 touchdowns. Bryce Young was 23 for 38 for 217 yards. His only throwing touchdown was to Adam Thielen for 8 yards. *Final Score — Miami – 42, Panthers – 21

**GAME 4 – Jets/Eagles — Seeing this match-up, I expected the Eagles to with this. The Jets losing Aaron Rogers for the season, I guess I didn’t expect them to adjust as well as they have. Jalen Hunt ran for the Eagle’s 1 of 2 touchdowns in the first quarter with a 3-yard run. For the day, Jalen with 8 carries for 47 yards. He threw 28 for 45 for 281 yards. 1 touchdown but 3 interceptions. D’andrea Swift with a 9-yard carry from Jalen Hunt. Zach Wilson was quiet throwing 19 for 33 for 186. Breece Hall with an 8-yard run for the Jet’s only touchdown of the day, which would be the game-winning score tagged with a 2-point conversion. *Final Score — Jets – 20 and the Eagles – 14

**GAME 5 – Bills/Giants — It was all the Giants through the 3rd quarter holding a 6 to 0 lead thanks in part to 2 – field goals. The Bill’s offence seemed to wake up in the 4th quarter with 2 touchdowns from Deonte Harty and Quintin Morris, along with the extra point being good the Bills sneaked home with the win. Josh Allen threw 19 for 30 for 169 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, Tyrod Taylor was OK throwing 24 for 36 for 200 yards. *Final Score — Giants 9 and Bills – 14

**GAME 6 – Titans/Ravens — We are off to London for this game. It rained field goals all day. The only touchdown before halftime was a 10-yard pass from Lamar Jackson but the extra point was blocked. The Titan’s only touchdown came in the 3rd quarter when Derrick Henry had a 15-yard run. Ryan Tannehill had a really off day only throwing 8 for 16 for 76 yards with 1 interception. Lamar Jackson had a better day throwing 21 for 30 for 223 yards with 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. *Final Score – Ravens — 24 and Titians — 16

**GAME 7 – Chargers/Cowboys — The game was tied at 10 through the 3rd quarter. You could see Dallas having a hard time. 11:19 in the fourth Dallas took the lead, 17 to 10. The Chargers were not going to go away quietly scoring a touchdown at the 7:11 mark. With 2:19 left in the game, it came down to Brandon Aubrey’s 39-yard field goal taking the lead. Justin Herbert threw 22 for 37 for 227 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Dak Prescott had a good day throwing 21 for 30 for 272 with 1 touchdown. *Final Score – Dallas 20 and Chargers 17

NFL Games Week 5

*GAME 1 — Bears/Commanders — It was sad to hear the news of the passing of Dick Butkus. It was going to be an interesting game. My boy Justin Fields from Ohio State driving the offence for the Bears. Justin was economical throwing 15 for 29 for 282 yards with 4 touchdowns. Sam Howell was throwing all over the place, 37 for 51 with 388 yards, 2 touchdowns along 1 interception. Even with being held scoreless in the 3rd quarter, the Bears still had enough points on the board to make sure they got the win. *Final score – Bears 40 and Commanders 20

*GAME 2 — Bills/Jaguars — both teams coming into today with equal records of 3 wins/2 loses. Trevor Lawrence with the first touchdown of the game throws to Zay Jones for 6 yards. Converting a 2-point conversion, along with a field goal, for the only scores of the first quarter. Trevor finished the day going 25 for 37 for 315 yards, with 1 touchdown. Josh Allen racked up the yards today throwing 27 for 40 for 359 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception but Josh also ran for 14 yards in 4 carries scoring 1 touchdown. It wouldn’t be enough as the Jags would score 14 points in the final quarter to take the win. *Final score – Bills 20 and Jaguars 25

*GAME 3 — Steelers/Ravens — The Steelers defence did most of the work today holding the Ravens to just 10 points for the game. It was a scoreless 3rd quarter, with the Steelers defence shutting out the Ravens in the 4th quarter. Kenny Pickett threw 18 for 32 for 224 yards with 1 touchdown, Lamar Jackson did all he could but threw 1 interception, 22 for 38, 236 yards. The only touchdown was rushed by Justice Hill for 14 yards. *Final Score – Ravens 10 and Steelers 17

*GAME 4 — Dolphins/Giants — Miami with a solid offence performance today, Tua Tagovailoa was solid throwing, 22 for 30 for 308 yards, 2 touchdowns but 2 interceptions. The Giants’ only touchdown was 102 yards interception by Jason Pinnock. Daniel Jones could only manage 14 for 20 for 119 yards. *Final Score Miami – 31 and Giants 16

*GAME 5 — Rams/Eagles — The Eagles came into this match with an undefeated record. The Eagles’ defence with a big day holding the Rams to only 14 points. Matthew Stafford threw 241 for 37 for 222 yards along with 2 touchdowns. Jalen Hunt was a busy guy throwing 25 for 38 for 303 yards with 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, but Jalen also ran 72 yards in 15 carries scoring 1 touchdown. *Final Score Eagles – 23 and the Rams – 14

*GAME 6 — Cowboys/49ers — The 49ers going into this game were still undefeated. At halftime, it was 21 to 7 in favour of San Francisco. The Niner’s defence had really done a number on the offence. Dak Prescott had a terrible day throwing 12 for 24 for 153 yards, only 1 touchdown but 3 interceptions. On the other side, Brock Purdy threw 17 for 24 for 252 yards and 4 touchdowns. *Final Score – Dallas – 10 and 49ers – 42

*GAME 7 — Packers/Raiders — Jordon Love had a terrible day directing the offence throwing 16 for 30 for 182 yards, 3 interceptions. The only touchdown came thanks to a 5-yard run by AJ Dillion. The Raiders Jimmy Garoppolo threw 22 for 31 for 208 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. *Final Score — Riaders 17 and Packers 13

From Cincinnati, we headed north to Buffalo (with a wind chill below zero) for the game between the Bills and Patriots. Josh Allen and the Bills were too strong for the Patriots.
